



Rural Development unit aims to create infrastructural facilities in rural areas including the construction of link roads, approach roads, parks, minor drains and to provide basic facilities to the people of rural villages etc.
Out of the total area of 1483 sq. kms. of Delhi, 369.35 sq. kms. are rural and 1113.65 sq.kms. are urban as per Population Census 2011. The entire rural area is divided in 5 Community Development Blocks.
The rural population as per 2011 census was 4.19 lakhs.
Integrated rural development of villages in Delhi is presently extended to the rural villages. The Govt. of NCT of Delhi has constituted a Rural Development Board for Delhi in October, 2004 in the name and style of Delhi Rural Development Board. At present there are 46 Members (including Chairman), of the board including MLAs & PD(RD) as Member Secretary. Deputy Commissioner of Revenue Districts North, North-West, West, South, South-West are co-opted as and when required . The Board’s function is to advise the Government on issues connected with the infrastructure development for securing Plan growth of Rural Areas of Delhi. Its activities include formulation of unified and coordinate area plan; recommend prioritize the Projects and Schemes of the Rural Area Plan and its implementation etc. The Board meets at regular intervals to review the progress of the implementation of the Schemes relating to Rural Area Plan.
The office of the PD(RD) is engaged in various developmental activities I &FC is the main Executing Agency. MCD, DJB, etc are also executive agency to carry out various development works in the rural villages.
